Welcome to our world!
League of Sovereigns (LOS) is a global community of independent thinkers who
value the wisdom of oneness and connection and
practice concord, care and courage.
for the wellbeing and happiness of themselves and others.
Throughout the ages, the wisdom of oneness and connection enabled our ancestors to live in harmony with the whole of nature, appreciate meaningful relationships and experience the bliss of happiness.
Oneness and connection are two sides of the same coin. For millennia, this wisdom has been a shared world-view of many indigenous cultures around the world.
Oneness is the acceptance that we are a part of nature and we are linked to the whole of nature. Oneness is also the acceptance that we share a common destiny with nature. What we do to the living things on this planet and the planet itself, we do on to ourselves.
Connection is the meaningful relationships we have with people and nature. We all have a primal need for meaningful relationships with people, animals, plants and places. This is our need for connection. In appreciating meaningful relationships with people and nature, we experienced the bliss of happiness. (De Silva, HD).
Loss of Oneness. Loss of Connection.
Since the Industrial revolution, we have moved away from the world-view of oneness and connection to a world-view of difference and competition. In this world view, being different is celebrated as happiness. We are told, happiness comes when we consume a variety of manufactured goods and elevate ourselves above the rest of humankind. In pursuit of this false view of happiness, many products have been competitively produced and competitively consumed, with much of it wasted. Yet, millions of people are still seeking happiness. With excessive production and excessive consumption we now face the consequences of climate change, declining biodiversity and rising pollution, which together has the potential for a global mass extinction event, including our own.
So, what can I do to make things better?
A difference cannot make us happy. It only promotes greed, envy and arrogance. It is oneness (i.e. the opposite of difference) and connection, and the appreciation of such is what makes us happy. Consuming manufactured goods can helps us to achieve sufficiency and the bliss of health, but not happiness. If you want happiness, it is not consumerism that you need. You need community!
Coming together as a community requires us to understand that we are all made up of the same stuff: atoms. It is the same stuff that makes up the planets, stars and the Universe. So we are a part of the whole and we are connected to this whole through laws of nature. The differences that we see in people in terms of gender, race, cast, creed, privilege, belief, disability, politics, nationality etc., are masks that cover this true reality. We are all one!
Coming together as a community also requires us to focus primarily on objective realities in our interactions with each other, to maintain concord (i.e harmony) in the community.
Subjective realities - one's own thoughts, feelings and spirituality.
Objective realities - physical objects, living things, nature, natural phenomena, mathematics and the laws of nature.
Imagined realities - politics, religions, corporations, governments, states and nations.
The League of Sovereigns
The League of Sovereigns is a secular, global community that is united in a shared understanding and a common purpose. Our shared understanding is the world view of oneness and connection. Our common purpose is to practice this wisdom through concord, care and courage for the wellbeing and happiness of one and all.
Concord - Harmony through humanity.
We live and let others live their own lives. We speak and let others speak. We do and let others do.
We are kind. We are inclusive. We respect and value all human beings.
We are patient. We observe what is happening without reacting, we notice the evolving patterns and trends and then we act accordingly to address that which is most important.
We listen, understand, guide and inspire.
We develop meaningful and enduring relationships.
Care - Skillful practice and stewardship.
We strive to be the best at what we do.
We do no harm. We do good with dutiful care to those who we serve. Being in the moment, we respond to the need in front of us, with love and kindness.
We practice stewardship by connecting to country and then caring for our land and nature.
We live a zero waste lifestyle: we reduce, reuse, recycle and repurpose.
Courage - Voice out injustice.
In the Legal sphere we presume that everyone is innocent of all things; until proven guilty in a court of law of their peers with valid evidence and beyond any reasonable doubt. We speak out if this is not so.
In the Cultural sphere, in all life activities, we accept that happiness and welbeing is the true measure of success, progress and civiliazation (not money or material wealth). We speak out if this is not so.
In the Economic sphere we accept that efficiency is achieved when there is maximum wellbeing with minimum consumption. We speak out if this is not so.
"A human being is part of the Whole... He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest - a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole nature in its beauty.”
- Albert Einstein
“… in the light of the (human) continuum and its millions of years, it is only our tiny history that appears radical in its departures from the long established norms of human and pre-human experience.”
- Jean Liedloff
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”
- Martin Luther King Jr.,
In Africa there is a concept known as 'ubuntu' - the profound sense that we are human only through the humanity of others; that if we are to accomplish anything in this world it will in equal measure be due to the work and achievement of others.
“Embrace the majesty of now, and see the need in front of you, and respond to that
with love and kindness
as if for the first time”
- Geoff Taylor
